What is natural language processing (NLP)?
Also called: NLP
Natural language processing (NLP) is the field of AI focused on understanding and generating human language: translation, summarising, sentiment, speech and chat. Today, large language models do most NLP tasks that once needed separate specialised systems.
How does natural language processing work?
Text is turned into tokens and numbers a model can process. Modern NLP models learn grammar, meaning and context from huge amounts of text.
Why does natural language processing matter?
NLP is behind search, translation, voice assistants and chatbots, including support for Indian languages.
An example
Example: An app translating a Tamil customer review into English and tagging it as a complaint is doing NLP.
