What is generative AI?

Also called: GenAI

Generative AI is AI that creates new content, such as text, images, audio, video or code, instead of only sorting or predicting labels. It learns the patterns in huge amounts of existing content and uses them to produce new content that fits a prompt.

How does generative AI work?

Text generators (large language models) predict the next word; image generators typically start from noise and refine it step by step into a picture that matches your description.

Why does generative AI matter?

Generative AI is changing how people write, design, code and run businesses. It's powerful but can be confidently wrong, so its output needs checking.
